Synopsis

“Luoluo's Youth” is a story about Louluo's youth that extends from the 1980s to the present day. The film consists of Luoluo's diary and photos from the late 70's and early 80's, along with the everyday moments of her present life.

The film traces Luoluo's past youth, witnesses Luoluo's ongoing youth, and ultimately reexamines the very definition of "youth". What is youth? How to carry it on?

This film was created in the Caochangdi Workstation "Folk Memory Project".

Curator’s Note

Lolo has been one of the most important auteurs of self-documentary. Unlike Zhang Mengqi's images, which seek the reconciliation between her female body and her hometowns, Lolo uses her own experience of motherhood, exploring a new way of telling her own and the national history from below.
